We are proud to announce our 2016-2017 Performing Arts Season “A New Season of Shining Stars!”
“This year, our main stage shows will give everyone in your family a night of great entertainment at a great price!” stated Scott D. Miller, director, he continues “Our theatrical musical productions is a season for all ages, and we hope the community will continue to support our future actors and actresses in our very memorable musical productions.”
We kick off “A New Season of Shining Stars!” at Damascus Area School, with an original musical production of Elf - the Musical, JR, directed by Melanie Hansen. Based on the beloved holiday film, this hilarious fish-out-of-water comedy follows Buddy the Elf in his quest to find his true identity. Buddy, a young orphan, mistakenly crawls into Santa's bag of gifts and is transported to the North Pole. The would-be elf is raised, unaware that he is actually a human, until his enormous size and poor toy-making abilities cause him to face the truth. With Santa's permission, Buddy embarks on a journey to New York City to find his birth father and discover his true identity. Faced with the harsh reality that his father is on the naughty list and that his half-brother doesn't even believe in Santa, Buddy is determined to win over his new family and help New York remember the true meaning of Christmas. The show plays November 4-5, 2016 at the Damascus Area School.
Next up, the Wayne Highlands Middle School proudly presents School House Rock Live, JR, directed by Scott D. Miller. Based on the ever-popular, award-winning 1970s cartoons, this fast-paced musical teaches lessons with clever, catchy tunes. This energetic musical, which follows Tom, a young schoolteacher, who is nervous about his first day of teaching. He tries to relax by watching TV, when various characters representing facets of his personality emerge from the set and show him how to win his students over with imagination and music. Memorable songs as "Just a Bill," "Circulation" and "Conjunction Junction" bring his lesson plans vividly to life. The show plays November 18-19, 2016 at the Honesdale High School Performing Arts Center.
Ringing in the new year, we join Ariel and her friends under the sea in the highly anticipated Honesdale High School Musical production of Disney's The Little Mermaid, directed by Scott D. Miller. In a magical kingdom fathoms below, we meet Ariel, the little mermaid who is tired of flipping her fins and longs to be part of the fascinating world on dry land. Joining her are Sebastian, Ariel’s crabby sidekick; Ursula, the evil sea witch; Triton, King of the Sea and the handsome and human Prince Eric. Based on the Disney animated film and hit Broadway musical. Dive on in! Life is the bubbles, under the sea! The show plays February 17-19, 2017 at the Honesdale High School Performing Arts Center.
Lastly, we close "A New Season of Shining Stars!" at our Preston School in Lakewood with the musical production of Disney's Aladdin, Jr, directed by Melanie Hansen, which brings the classic Disney musical to life on the stage. Aladdin lives on the streets of Agrabah, a City of Enchantment where every beggar has a story and every camel has a tail! When he meets Jasmine, a beautiful and plucky princess in disguise, Aladdin is determined to win her heart. Obstacles, however, await at every turn. It will take all of his wit, and some help from his wacky friend the Genie, for Aladdin to triumph over the evil Jafar for Jasmine’s hand in marriage. In the end, Aladdin and Jasmine live happily ever after, with a “whole new world” of opportunities ahead of them.
We hope you join us this season for a great night of entertainment and support our students in "A New Season of Shining Stars!"
